Oxford ELLT tests

Oxford ELLT Digital, is a fully online modularised English Language Level Test that can be completed from anywhere in the world. The test combines the flexibility of being fully online with the latest AI security measures and human proctoring, to ensure we are delivering an accurate reflection of a student’s level.

Oxford ELLT Global, is a three-hour in-person test, designed to be completed in one sitting. The test is computer-based at an approved Oxford ELLT Test Centre, providing students with a secure, accessible, and fully invigilated environment. Oxford ELLT partners with approved businesses to establish and operate test centres globally.

Score Mapping

Candidates receive an overall level, with individual scores for all four test components. The overall level reflects the average of the reading, listening, writing, and speaking scores, where each component is weighted equally. Students receive an overall English level along with a breakdown of the 4 individual component levels.

Oxford ELLT is marked on a 12-point scale that is mapped to IELTS and CEFR levels.

Our commitment to academic integrity

Test Content

All Oxford ELLT content is developed and written in-house by the Oxford International English Language division. Questions are pre-tested using our global student network across the UK and North America. All content is independently moderated and subjected to checks using EAQUALS Core Inventory and ‘TrackTest’ English Language Level descriptors. Oxford ELLT content is produced in 8-week cycles enabling the bank of test questions to be updated regularly. Test questions older than 3 months are removed and used as preparation materials.

Oxford ELLT Examiners

All Oxford ELLT Examiners are trained and standardised to the same high level through our central Oxford ELLT Academic Team. Examiners are standardised twice per year and are moderated every three months. Each Oxford ELLT Examiner must hold a certified TEFL qualification, have five years’ ELT experience and at least two years of English language examining practice.

The Oxford ELLT (English Language Level Test) has been independently reviewed by Ecctis across grading, certification, marking and moderation, and been found to provide ‘a sound assessment of English language competency in listening, reading, writing, and speaking at CEFR levels B1 to C1′.

The Oxford ELLT Partner Portal provides access to manage students, download certificates, and verify results. Through the use of online tools and a bespoke registration link partners are able to improve efficiency and increase the speed at which they process students. With online training and account management Oxford ELLT is able to provide partner specific support.
