This session will explore introductory concepts to critical thinking – crucial to all studies. It will describe a model (the Describe Interpret Evaluate approach) and use this to apply to some practical tasks.
The session will include the following items:
This session will introduce and explore some elements of UK culture and then lead to a discussion about cultural appropriacy. It will begin with some ideas of what living in the UK might be like linked to culture. It will then explore manners and appropriacy through body language (non-verbal communication – useful for presentations, seminar discussions or 1-2-1 communication) and how this compares to other cultures.
The session will include the following items:
This session will focus on an area of cultural communication based on the work of Trompenaar. It will provide a framework to understand culture through his dimensions and engage the critical thinking skills of session 1 to discuss further. The session will help provide one lens in which different cultures can be viewed – something valuable for both studies and work environments.
